A young South Sudanese woman, identified as Victoria Dawa, was discovered dead in her hotel room in Kampala, Uganda, on Thursday morning, October 16, 2025.
According to reports from Voice of Juba, Victoria had traveled to Kampala three weeks earlier with a man from Eritrea, whom she had previously worked with in Bor, Jonglei State. The man reportedly booked a hotel room for both of them but left a week later without informing her.

Her lifeless body was later found in the room under unclear circumstances. Authorities have since launched a full investigation to uncover the cause of death, as no signs of illness were recorded before the incident.
Victoria hailed from Mvolo County in Western Equatoria State and was of mixed Jur and Zande descent. She was reportedly married to a man from Darfur, Sudan.
The news has sparked concerns and calls for justice from the South Sudanese community in Uganda and beyond.
