Ghanaian musician KiDi, born Dennis Nana Dwamena, has emerged as one of the most influential figures in the African music scene. Renowned for his smooth vocals and infectious rhythms, KiDi’s journey to stardom is a testament to talent, resilience, and strategic mentorship.

Early Beginnings and Breakthrough

While pursuing a degree in Economics and Information Studies at the University of Ghana, KiDi’s passion for music led him to participate in the MTN Hitmaker competition in 2015. His victory in the competition paved the way for his signing with Lynx Entertainment, a prominent Ghanaian record label founded by producer and singer-songwriter Richie Mensah. KiDi’s breakthrough came in 2017 with the release of “Say You Love Me,” a song he composed, arranged, and produced himself. The track not only showcased his musical prowess but also marked the beginning of his rise in the Ghanaian music industry.

Chart-Topping Hits and International Recognition

Following “Say You Love Me,” KiDi released “Odo” in July 2017, which became a massive hit in Ghana and beyond. The remix featuring Nigerian artists Davido and Mayorkun further expanded its reach across Africa. In April 2018, KiDi released “Adiepena,” another chart-topping single that solidified his position in the music industry. His debut album, Sugar, released in May 2019, was accompanied by a movie of the same name. The album’s success was followed by the release of the Blue EP in 2020, featuring tracks like “End in Tears,” “Say Cheese,” and “One Man,” the latter featuring Adina. In 2021, KiDi released his second studio album, The Golden Boy, which won the “Album of the Year” award at the 2022 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards. The album included hits like “Mon Bebe,” “Cyclone,” and “Touch It,” the latter breaking the record for the most streamed Ghanaian song on Spotify.

Awards and Accolades

KiDi’s exceptional talent has earned him numerous awards and nominations. At the 2018 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, he received six nominations, including ‘Best New Artiste,’ ‘Afro-pop Song of the Year,’ and ‘Male Vocalist of the Year,’ winning the ‘High-life Song of the Year’ award. In 2022, he was crowned ‘Artiste of the Year’ at both the 3Music Awards and the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards. His accolades also include ‘Album of the Year’ for The Golden Boy and ’Best Reggae/Dancehall.
