Ghana’s Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has issued a firm warning to parents who treat secondary school education as a fashion or beauty contest. He emphasized that Senior High Schools (SHS) are institutions of learning and discipline—not runways for fashion shows.

“Any parent who thinks their child can walk into an SHS as if it were a beauty contest should think again. School is not designed for that purpose, it will not be tolerated,” he cautioned.
The minister’s statement comes amid growing concerns over inappropriate dressing and attitudes among some students, especially during school admissions and orientation periods. He stressed the importance of maintaining the country’s educational standards, saying students must prioritize discipline, academic excellence, and moral values.
He further urged school authorities to strictly enforce dress codes and uphold the integrity of the educational environment. Parents were also encouraged to play a more active role in guiding their children to respect school rules and Ghanaian cultural values.
The Education Ministry has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that SHS remains a place of academic development, character building, and preparation for the future—not a platform for fashion displays.
