According to GhanaWeb, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Boasiako (aka “Chairman Wontumi”), has been rearrested.

He was taken to the Criminal Court at the Accra High Court, where the charges against him are expected to be filed.
Charges and Legal Proceedings
MyJoyOnline reports that the Office of the Attorney-General has filed a six-count criminal charge sheet at the High Court (Criminal Division) in Accra against Wontumi, his associate Kwame Antwi, and Akonta Mining Company Limited (his firm). The charges stem from alleged unauthorized mining / illegal mining (galamsey) activities at Samreboi in the Western Region. The claims include permitting and facilitating mining without ministerial approval, and assignment of mineral rights in violation of the Minerals and Mining Act (Act 703 as amended by Act 995). Wontumi was earlier granted GH₵1 million bail after being invited by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for questioning. He is expected to face further charges in court on October 7, 2025 before the High Court in Accra.
