Ghanaian highlife musician Bisa Kdei has opened up about the realities of marriage, stressing that settling down naturally comes with limitations and lifestyle changes that many people often underestimate.
Speaking in an interview on Okay FM, the award-winning singer explained that marriage is not just about love or companionship, but about responsibility, maturity, and sacrifice. According to Bisa Kdei, once a person gets married, their freedom changes significantly, and certain decisions can no longer be made impulsively.
He noted that activities which once felt normal — such as hanging out late with friends, traveling freely, or even posting casually on social media — must now be approached with greater thoughtfulness. “You now have someone you are accountable to,” he explained, adding that a spouse and family automatically become the top priority.
Bisa Kdei emphasized that time management becomes crucial after marriage. He explained that balancing work, social life, and family requires discipline, understanding, and clear communication. What used to be spontaneous decisions now need planning and mutual agreement.

Touching on travel, the highlife star pointed out that married individuals can no longer move around freely without considering their partner and children. Whether it is work-related travel, leisure trips, or late-night movements, marriage demands transparency and consultation.
According to Bisa Kdei, many challenges in marriages today arise because people rush into settling down without fully understanding the adjustments required. He advised that marriage should only be considered when one is mentally, emotionally, and financially prepared for the responsibilities it brings.
“Marriage is beautiful, but it’s not for everyone at every stage of life,” he suggested, encouraging young people to take their time before making such a lifelong commitment.
His comments have sparked discussions on social media, with many agreeing that marriage comes with sacrifices, while others believe love makes the adjustments worthwhile. Regardless of differing opinions, Bisa Kdei’s message highlights an important truth: marriage is a serious commitment that reshapes priorities, freedom, and daily life.
