A tragic incident has shaken residents of Ablekuma Olebu in the Anyaa Sowutuom Constituency of the Greater Accra Region, as a man believed to be in his late 40s was found dead after allegedly hanging himself.

The deceased, identified only as O.P, was a known member of the Ghana Drunkards Association, a social group noted for its advocacy for responsible consumption of locally produced alcoholic beverages, especially akpeteshie.

According to the Association’s president, Moses Drybone, the late O.P. had recently complained bitterly about the troubling behaviour of his wife. Due to the constant marital tension, he reportedly left home and sought refuge among friends in search of peace and emotional relief.

In an interview with Okogyeabour Ocran, Moses explained that the deceased had been missing since last week Saturday. A search was launched shortly afterward, leading to the heartbreaking discovery of his lifeless body hanging from a ceiling bar in his room, tied with a sponge.

By the time he was found, the body had already begun decomposing.

Police officers later arrived at the scene and conveyed the remains to their facility for safe keeping. Authorities say a detailed investigation has commenced to establish the exact circumstances surrounding his death.

The community remains in shock, with many calling for increased mental health support, early intervention, and stronger family counseling structures to help citizens facing emotional or domestic challenges.
